My wife loved it...she loaned it to a friend who also loves it. Maybe when she returns it next week, I will suggest to Barb that she ask our Pastor if he would like to read it.
A gem! Flowing words retelling the lives of dedicated Christians. This is written with such economy of perfectly ordered words that you can sense the working of the spirit. One can pick up this book and set it down one beautiful read at a time.
It's an interesting book, and I enjoy the format. Short stories about people who stood out in their time, and some who still do in our history. Its the kind of book you read a few stories at a time, so you can think about them. Recommended!
I love reading the 'old masters' and this little book is a treasure of passages from some of the giants of the Christian faith. The excerpts are very insightful and just broaden my understanding and deepen my faith. I highly recommend this book for any serious Christian.
I enjoyed the way Boreham used the biographies and stories to illustrate some of the many different verses in Scripture that deal with salvation. He also uses the poem, The Muster Roll, in this book.
Boreham had such an incredible gift to tell stories to communicate the heart and message of the gospel. His writings are packed rich with so many a great literatures and biographies and he turns them into beautiful essays that communicate the heart of God. It is no wonder Ruth Bell Graham said she reads one of his books every year and will continue to do so for the rest of her life.
I stumbled across Boreham and I can tell I will never be the same as a result of the encounter. I remember being about about 1/3 of the way through this book thinking, "This has to be the most impactful thing I have read, outside of Scripture, in the last 10 years." And that is not hyperbole. His take on Scripture is fresh and hit me like a hammer. In a day when pastor after pastor continues to recycle the same anecdotes and illustrations, Boreham stands as the conspicuous novelty. Read it. Then join me on the journey to read everything his pen touched.
