Blaise Corvin, author of the best-selling novel Delves LLC, has released a new LitRPG series. The author describes it as “hard LitRPG set in a Steampunk/Victorian era HP Lovecraft-type horror world”.For the most part, that’s a pretty accurate description. The Lovecraft influence is mostly seen in the cool game mechanics where magic has an additional cost of possibly making the user go insane if they fail a sanity check and monsters attacking that same sanity. It’s an interesting and unique mechanic and I liked that characters had to be careful about how they used magic because of this additional cost.
I really enjoyed reading this story. The characters are great, there’s lots of action and adventure. The game world is set in a unique Victorian era setting with plenty of steampunk influences. There are PVP and PVE battles. The character classes are unique and theme appropriate, like artificer and alchemist.There’s epic end game loot, rare items, and an interesting storyline about what happens to a player that gets hold of that stuff when it’s worth a great deal of real world money.
The only real complaint I have about the story is that I want MORE. The author has stated that this story is a side project of his that has helped him increase his writing pace on the Delvers LLC series. He’d always intended this story to be a novella and reading the story I can see some places where he likely edited out several thousand words and summarized. This world is so cool, I want to know all the lore, all the skill builds, and all the backstory for each character.

I was hesitant to purchase this at first as I wasn't crazy about the authors previous story. I'm glad that I took the chance on this one though as it turned out to be a pretty good book. It is a little on the short side, but is longer than the page count listed by . It started off a bit slow and at the 43% mark I wasn't sure if I would bother continuing. I am glad I stayed with it as it really picked up in the second half of the book. This is a good example of LitRPG, it has the stats, leveling, and loot drops that I enjoy in this genre. Overall this series has potential and I will buy the next installment when it comes out.
I read the whole thing starting on my two reads at work and reading through luncg. Finished a little after midnight due to having to make dinner and socialize haha. This is a new and interesting rule set for skills and abilities that really sounds cool! I enjoyed the other two books that you wrote but really this one is the best for me. I am really stoked and am looking forward to the next one but I do request that you try to make it a lot longer than this one. The books from now on could be 500+ pages and I would be totally okay with that. Really. I'd pay out more too. This litrpg genre is really exploding and your name is permantly in my top listings to re-read.
Great author and great book. Fast paced, well developed characters and great dialogue. This author delivers and you definitely get your money's worth from the book. It's a wonderful can't put it Down Litrpg.
I am usually much more a fan of the sword and sorcery Litrpg stories or just in fantasy novels in general but this book grew on me. Without any spoilers I can say one thing that threw me off was that it starts out at a point in the story where most stories end at. It opens with the main character opening the door to huge power. At first I felt like I was missing pet of the story and I almost put the story down but I figured I would give it a few more chapters. I am very glad I did as this story was pretty interesting it was also interesting since it is set in a semi Victorian era society mixed in with monsters and or beings similar to Lovecrafts stories. I never really read any but I can tell you that it's not important just know it's not vampires or orcs. I am looking forward to this stories future.
I’m new to LitRPG and, so far, it’s been a lot of fun. I purchased Blaise Corvin’s Luck Stat Strategy mainly because of his near-manic enthusiasm for Michael-Scott Earle’s Lion’s Quest series (excellent books, including the Audible versions.) Buying the book is one of my better decisions in 2018.
The story takes place in the near future, where almost everyone has a personal computer, persocomp, installed in their heads. That device allows people to do a lot of things, including gaming. In-game behavior can have real life consequences. [Imagine many witty spoilers.]
Buy the book and enjoy a few hours reading a really fun story. It will in no way change your life or give you a deeply spiritual understanding of the world around you. It’s just great fun!
Blaise, I hate you. You have started an excellent story that I can not wait to continue but I am forced to wait while you write.
Seriously folks, this story is awesome. I admit to being leery about certain aspects when I first heard about it but Blaise has done an outstanding job with the mythos and implementation into a game world and the repercussions that would arise.
Ok first off I read this on Unlimited so no verified purchase. This book rocks, probably one of the best litrpg books I have read. Right up there with way of the shaman. This is a game I would play . Steampunk mixed with cuthulu.... seriously sign me up right now. This reminds me of some of the books I read when I was a kid. The writer has a well written, good world building and awesome MC building. MC isn't OP but is damn good at what he does.
